Our story
SomeStuff is a hobby that evolved into a small family business.
A venture of faith dedicated to making beautiful and quality gifts, novelties and special request products.
We operate this business alongside our other business, EarthRings.net
We, Awie and Martie Potgieter, have been married for 18 years and have a teenage son and daughter.
We live in beautiful South Africa.
Awie is qualified as a metallurgical engineer and spent most of his professional life, working on steel plants and other heavy industries. He entertains his adventurous and creative side with his hobbies, leather working and bush crafting.
Martie is a work from home mom and serial hobbyist and is always looking for interesting projects and exploring new ideas.
For the last couple of years, her main pastime has been woodwork, creating furniture and decor from reclaimed wood and other materials.
It is during this time that she started making rings and other jewellery as well.
The interest in her handcrafted rings exceeded their expectations and soon Awie realized that “the hobby” had potential and in 2019, EarthRings.net – the business was born.
At the same time this was a wonderful opportunity for Awie to leave the “rat race” and pursue a new career as a crafter and have enough time and energy to commit to his other passion, discipleship.
From our interaction with couples looking for unique and bespoke wedding rings, we realised there was a great need for unique and bespoke wedding favours, invitations and decor, as well. During the “Great Disruption” of 2020, we decided to take the plunge and acquire a laser engraving machine to compliment our woodwork and CNC machining capabilities.
In short, we have the skills and passion, and now all the equipment as well, to make our customers ideas come to life.
